The Kobayashi Kokei Memorial Museum of Art opened in 2020 as an art museum that collects and exhibits the works of Kokei Kobayashi, a Japanese-style painter from Joetsu City, as well as those of artists associated with Joetsu City.
The site includes the Kobayashi Kokei Residence (registered tangible cultural property), which was moved and restored from Minamimagome, Ota-ku, Tokyo, and a reproduction of Kokei’s painting room. The garden is planted with flowers, plants, and trees that Kokei painted, and visitors can enjoy the view of the garden as it changes with the seasons.
This time, visitors will enjoy a special tour of the Kobayashi Kokei Memorial Museum of Art by a curator and a special dinner at the former Kokei Kobayashi’s residence, using materials from Joetsu.
The dinner will be served with wine stored in a snow cellar, and the tableware will be made of Wajima-nuri lacquerware more than 130 years old, which has been handed down in the Takata village headman’s family during the Meiji period.
